Established in 1969, Mt Keira Rural Fire Brigade is a Village 2 rated brigade with approximately 35 active members. It is made up entirely of volunteers who are responsible for executing the NSW Rural Fire Services (RFS) charter within our local area.

The RFS is the lead agency for coordinated bush fire fighting and is also responsible for fires and related emergency incidents within Rural Fire Districts which cover more than 95% of the State. Fires and related emergency incidents include bush and grass fires, structure fires, motor vehicle fires and motor vehicle accidents. The RFS also supports other agencies in emergency situations such as floods, storms and search and rescue situations.
